This is a highly interesting specimen. It is a pyroxenite (a magmatic coarse-grained rock) with abundant black chromite aggregates. The specimen contains numerous sulphide inclusions which, according to the label, contain platinum and palladium. It is not uncommon for chromitites to be enriched with platinum group elements. The Merensky Reef is known for a variety of Pt and Pd minerals, making this a very special specimen. You will receive an Italian collection label as shown.
