Description

Aggregate of ivory crystallized willemite and black franklinite, cemented by white calcite, that is a classic combination from Franklin. Under long ultraviolet light willemite is green and calcite is pink. Under short ultraviolet light the colours are very intense. Willemite displays strong green fluorescence, while calcite is deep orange-red. Mn2+ is the cause of these fluorescences, that replaces Zn2+ in willemite, and Ca2+ in calcite.

Acquired in 02/12/2018 to René Allegaert. Ex Gustaaf collection #1750, with his handwritten label.
