Magnetite

An excellent sample of magnetite with a metallic luster and high magnetism, from a mine characterized by the production of magnetite and the extraction of vonsenite and lollingite, the "Monchi" mine. It presents tetrahedral crystals with deep geometric striations. This specimen comes from Burguillos del Cerro. It is worth noting that this area was exploited for more than 100 years for the extraction of iron ore for industry, and in 2017 it was declared a Site of Scientific Interest. In the municipality of Burguillos, there are several mines located within a skarn with a wide variety of lithologies, which have given rise to strong mineralization, mainly magnetite bound to sulfides, arsenides, borates, uranium ores, and rare earths, contributing beautiful mineral specimens to the world of mineralogy. The specimen in question is a matrix containing dispersed crystals of precious magnetite, with a black metallic luster, an isometric and opaque crystal system, and a beautiful octahedral morphology. In short, a beautiful piece with a high magnetic content, as can be seen in the photos with the magnet.
