Description

This superb specimen showcases the rare and highly sought-after green colouration characteristic of gypsum found within the copper-rich strata of the Lubin mine. Collected in 2015, the piece features a cluster of elongated, prismatic crystals of exceptional clarity. These "selenite" laths exhibit a high degree of transparency, allowing light to pass through the delicate crystalline structure.
​The distinct emerald-to-olive hue is not inherent to the gypsum itself but is the result of microscopic inclusions of herbertsmithite, a rare copper zinc chloride hydroxide mineral. The presence of these inclusions has been verified via XRD analysis. This mineralogical association creates a striking aesthetic contrast between the sharp, geometric form of the crystals and their organic, vibrant colouration.
