Description

Langite is a rare copper sulfate mineral with the chemical composition Cu₄SO₄(OH)₆·2H₂O. It forms secondarily through the oxidation of copper-bearing sulfide minerals in the weathering zone of copper deposits. Typical crystals are light blue to greenish-blue, acicular or fibrous, often occurring in dense, tufted, or crusty aggregates. Langite frequently occurs together with other secondary copper minerals such as brochantite, posnjakite, or malachite. In these cases, langite forms beautiful blue crystals with linarite.
