Description

Fehrite is a hydroxyl-containing, hydrated copper-magnesium-sulfate mineral that was recognized as a new mineral species by the International Mineralogical Association in 2019[1] and formally described in 2021 based on samples from the Casualidad mine near Baños de Sierra Alhamilla in Pechina (Almería), Spain. This mine is therefore the type locality. The mineral is named in honor of Karl Thomas Fehr, Professor of Mineralogy at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. It forms blue-green crystals and is the magnesium analogue of ktenasite.
