Description

Whitmoreite is a phosphate mineral containing mainly iron, manganese, calcium, and phosphate. It forms secondarily in pegmatitic or hydrothermally altered rocks, often as a result of the alteration of other phosphate-bearing minerals. It typically occurs as prismatic to granular crystals or aggregates, ranging in color from light brown to yellowish to greenish, and frequently associated with other rare phosphates. Here, whitmoreite forms yellow crystals with brownish beraunite.
