Description

Fornacite is a rare lead mineral belonging to the chromate group, with the chemical formula Pb₂Cu(CrO₄)(AsO₄)(OH). It forms secondarily in oxidized zones of lead ores, frequently in arid regions or near chromate deposits. It typically occurs as yellow-green to olive-green, prismatic or tabular crystals, often in small aggregates or crusts associated with other secondary lead minerals such as crocoite or cerussite. Here, fornacite forms small, yet very beautiful and characteristic olive-green crystals on hemimorphites together with rosasite.
