Description

Mitridatite is a relatively rare, hydrous calcium-iron phosphate with the chemical formula Ca₂Fe₃ + 3(PO₄)₃O₂ · 3H₂O. Mitridatite is a secondary mineral formed by the weathering of primary iron phosphates (such as triphylite) in pegmatites. It also forms in sedimentary iron ore deposits through the action of phosphate-containing solutions on limonite. In these cases, the mineral forms olive-green, radially radiating sphaerolites on matrix.
