Description

Bassanite is a rather rare calcium sulfate mineral with the chemical formula Ca(SO4) · 0.5H2O. It is of enormous technological importance, as it is the main component of calcined gypsum (plaster). Bassanite is an intermediate in the conversion of gypsum (dihydrate) to anhydrite (anhydrous). This is clearly visible on the specimen.
