Description

Well-developed naujakasite crystal on matrix from the world-famous Ilímaussaq alkaline complex near Narsaq, Kujalleq, Greenland. The specimen displays a highly reflective, silvery-grey naujakasite crystal with prominent cleavage planes and a metallic to pearly luster, strongly contrasting with the dark host rock.

Naujakasite is a very rare sodium–iron–manganese silicate and is essentially restricted to the Ilímaussaq complex, making specimens from this locality of exceptional systematic and locality importance. It is a characteristic mineral of peralkaline nepheline syenites and is closely associated with the unique mineral assemblages that have made Ilímaussaq one of the most important mineralogical localities worldwide.
