Description

Rare wölsendorfite with fourmarierite on matrix from the classic Gniritz locality in the Wölsendorf area, Schwarzhofen, Schwandorf District, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany. The specimen shows rich orange to reddish-orange wölsendorfite forming massive to finely crystalline areas, crosscut by dark vein-like structures and associated with fourmarierite. The contrasting colors and textures give the piece a strong visual and mineralogical presence.

Wölsendorfite is a very rare hydrated lead uranyl oxide mineral and is strongly associated with the historic uranium deposits of the Wölsendorf district. Specimens from this area are considered classic, as Wölsendorf is the type locality and the most important source of this species worldwide. Fourmarierite, another secondary uranium mineral, commonly occurs in association and adds further systematic interest.
