Description

Rare jamesite on matrix from the world-famous Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Highlands, Namibia. The specimen displays brownish to dark brown jamesite forming fine crystalline aggregates and compact microcrystalline coatings on matrix. The mineralization is well exposed and typical for this classic locality, with good contrast against the surrounding host rock.

Jamesite is a rare lead–iron mineral, most commonly found in complex polymetallic deposits. The Tsumeb Mine is one of the most important localities worldwide for jamesite and many other rare mineral, and specimens from this mine are highly sought after due to their quality, diversity, and historical significance. Material from Tsumeb is considered essential for advanced systematic and locality-based collections.
