Fedorite

Rare fedorite on matrix from the Murunskii Massif, Aldan Shield, Sakha Republic, Russian Federation. The specimen shows colourless to very pale pinkish fedorite occurring as lustrous, crystalline to massive aggregates on matrix, displaying a bright vitreous to slightly pearly luster characteristic of well-preserved material from this locality.

Fedorite is a rare silicate mineral, first described in 1973 and named in honour of Evgraf Stepanovich Fedorov (1853–1919), a Russian mineralogist and crystallographer renowned for his fundamental contributions to crystallography. The mineral forms in alkaline igneous environments, particularly within complex alkaline massifs and related metasomatic assemblages.

The Murunskii Massif is a classic and highly specialized alkaline complex, internationally known for producing a wide range of rare and unusual silicate minerals. Fedorite is considered rare and locality-restricted, and material from Murun represents the reference occurrence for the species. Within this massif, fedorite occurs together with other alkaline silicates typical of the Murun assemblage.

The specimen originates from the former collection of C. Strömpl, an amateur mineralogist.
