Description

A fine specimen of pyromorphite on cerussite from the legendary Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Highlands, Namibia. Slender, elongated cerussite crystals form the dominant matrix and are densely sprinkled with numerous tiny, white to pale pyromorphite crystals distributed across the surface, creating a delicate and highly aesthetic association.

Cerussite is a lead carbonate, while pyromorphite is a lead phosphate, and their association represents classic secondary oxidation-zone mineralization formed during the alteration of primary lead ores. Such intimate intergrowths are characteristic of the complex supergene environment at Tsumeb, one of the world’s most mineralogically diverse ore deposits.

Specimens combining cerussite and pyromorphite from Tsumeb are sought after for their scientific significance, fine crystal habits, and the mine’s historical importance as a type locality for numerous minerals.
