Description

Well-formed yellow-green saléeite occurring as sharp tabular crystals on a pale quartz-rich matrix from the Christa Mine, Großschloppen, Upper Franconia, Bavaria. The crystals show distinct rectangular outlines with good translucency and a vitreous to slightly greasy luster, typical for well-developed saléeite from this locality.

Saléeite is a rare hydrated magnesium uranyl phosphate, forming as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of uranium-bearing deposits. At the Christa Mine, it occurs in association with quartz and other uranium phosphates, often displaying excellent crystal form and color.

This specimen is a classic Bavarian locality example, notable for its crystal definition and the contrast between the yellow-green saléeite plates and the light-colored matrix.
