Description

A nice specimen of red beryl (variety bixbite) featuring a well-defined deep raspberry-red prismatic crystal embedded in a pale rhyolitic matrix. The crystal shows sharp crystal faces, good translucency, and a rich, saturated red color, characteristic of fine Wah Wah Mountains material.

Red beryl is among the rarest gemstone minerals on Earth, occurring in only a few localities worldwide, with the Wah Wah Mountains of Beaver County, Utah being the most famous and significant source. Its striking red color is caused by trace amounts of manganese, and well-formed crystals on matrix are especially sought after by collectors.

This specimen represents classic Utah red beryl, formed in topaz-bearing rhyolite, where beryllium-rich fluids crystallized under unique geochemical conditions. Due to the mineral’s extreme rarity and limited occurrence, red beryl is highly prized by advanced collectors and museums.
