Description

A fine specimen of rankachite displaying a well-developed radiating spray of slender, dark brown to nearly black prismatic crystals, set on a contrasting light-colored matrix. The radiating crystal aggregate forms a fan-like structure, a classic and visually appealing habit for this rare mineral.

This specimen originates from the Clara Mine, Oberwolfach, Freiburg Region, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, one of the world’s most important and prolific localities for rare and complex secondary minerals. Rankachite is a rare hydrated copper arsenate mineral, typically occurring as a secondary phase formed by the alteration of primary arsenic- and copper-bearing minerals under oxidizing conditions.

The Clara Mine is the type locality for numerous rare species and is especially renowned for producing rankachite specimens with well-defined radiating crystal habits, which are uncommon worldwide. Due to its rarity and limited occurrence, rankachite is primarily of interest to advanced collectors and systematic mineralogists.
