Description

Set of 6 rolled “nuggets” of baddeleyite, a zirconium oxide. An interesting historical specimen, baddeleyite in larger masses (and not as microcrystals) is not often found on the markets.

Comes with old label of Eugen Hussak. He was born in 1856 in Graz, Austria and studied geology under Ferdinand Zirkel in Leipzig, where he earned his PhD.
He was a member of the Geological Survey of Brazil (Geographic and Geologic Commission) in Saõ Paolo in 1887-1895, and wrote numerous articles on Brazilian mineralogy. Thus, his collection consisted predominantly of brazilian minerals, other locations are scarce.
Zirkonoxyd-favas = baddeleyite, Dana 6th II, 12 (1909).
The size is given for the largest specimen (see pics 4 & 5).

Very slightly radioactive due to content of U, Th and/or rare earth elements (appr. 0.7 µSv/h within spitting distance).
