Pervouralsk (Russian: Первоура́льск) is an important industrial city in the Sverdlovsk Oblast in the Ural Federal District, Russia. The name literally means “First in the Urals” or “First Ural City.” Its development began in the early 18th century with the discovery of iron ore deposits. In 1732, the first ironworks called Vasilyevo-Shaitansky (Васильево-Шайтанский) was founded, which formed the foundation for the later city. Today, Pervouralsk is an important center of Russian ferrous metallurgy (iron and steel industry).
