Description

A striking matrix specimen of the rare mineral kermesite. The piece shows a dense spray of radially arranged crystals covering a large portion of the matrix.

The crystals display the typical deep red coloration of kermesite and form elongated, needle like aggregates that radiate outward from the center. Their strong metallic to submetallic luster gives the specimen an intense brilliance and highlights the complex crystal structure very well.

Kermesite is an uncommon antimony oxysulfide that typically forms in the oxidation zones of antimony deposits, often associated with minerals such as stibnite and valentinite. Well developed radial crystal groups like this, especially covering such a large part of the matrix, are considered quite desirable among collectors.
