Description

Group of silver-metallic, well defined pseudo-cubic crystals of acanthite, stacked in a parallel growth, associated to minor golden chalcopyrite. This specimen is a classic example of a paramorph (acanthite after argentite), where the original cubic symmetry of the argentite is morphologically inherited by the acanthite. The specimen is highly lustrous, crystallized all around and completely free of damage.

Acquired in 1975, probably from the San Juan de Rayas mine, it comes with a handwritten label from René Virlet.
