Description

A couple of bright, deep red trapezohedral almandine crystals that are well exposed on a quartz matrix, that also holds some black arfvedsonite crystals, typical paragenesis for the locality. Found at the Kamiaba region, a very remote locality near the border with Zambia, that is very uncommon in collections.

Collected before 1960, the specimen is from the stock of Robert Verdoodt, who was working in the laboratories of Union Minière du Haut-Katanga and evacuated to Belgium in 1960 after the beginning of the Congo crisis.
