Description

Gorgeous specimen of fluorapophyllite-(K) with many interesting characteristics to point out. First, the crystals have a good vitreous and are transparent at the exterior zones, with a very pale green colour, but with nice pink cores, which is quite unusual. Second, they form blocky pseudo-cuboctahedral crystals, with the tetragonal prism {110}, tetragonal dipyramid {101} and pinacoid {001}. The pinacoid faces are spiky, and almost all the surfaces (less in the tetragonal dipyramid) are partialy covered by tens of fluorapophyllite microcrystals, giving that general aspect of a saccharoidal surface. The sample size is also good, it surpass 13 cm and minor pink stilbites are also present. Finaly, some small milky white “octahedral” crystals show an intense whitish fluorescence, that could be pollucite?.

Acquired in 9/9/1995 to G. Claeys. Ex Gustaaf collection #4, with his handwritten label.
