Description

Bright octahedral crystals of cuprite, well exposed on euhedral calcite crystals, partially coated by green botryoidal chrysocolla. They are translucent, have an intense dark red colour that get an impressive gemmy red colour if backlighted. Mounted on a methacrylate socle. This “candy” was in the collection of Joseph Lhoest, a Belgian doctor who worked in DR of Congo for many years, and it is well known for his early 1990’s articles about Congo in journals such as The Mineralogical Record or Lapis. 

Found before 1985. Ex Joseph Lhoest specimen.
