Description

Lovely Paraspirifer Bownockeri brachiopod with the original calcium carbonate shell transformed into greenish yellow polycrystalline pyrite. The fossilization process has preserved very good the bilateral symmetry of this nice bivalve, with evenly spaced ribs and pretty well defined growth lines of the shell.

Very nice representative and complete specimen from the France Stone Co. "North" Quarry (Ohio, USA). The exploited limestones are of Silica Formation, Middle Devonian epoch (about 393 to 382 million years ago).

Acquired at the Tucson show in 1984 by Dr. Gerard Vogel.
