Description

A rounded branch of wood that is hollow, replaced by caramel brown calcite and white prismatic natrolite in a nice geode-like cavity. The calcite are yellowish-orange fluorescent under UV light. Interestingly, some tiny dark green to black crystals (augite?) are also “pasted” to the volcanic tuff that forms the matrix, showing that this uncommon natrolite-calcite fossilization is a product of a volcanic eruption.

Found in 02/2012 at the Mount Elgon (a remote locality in Uganda) by the Dutch collector Bert Biemold.
