Description

Big 0.7 Kg cluster of pyrite crystals from Kipushi, that is very rare in this dimension from this classic locality. The surface is richly crystallized, with many crystals of rounded edges. My guess is that this was intergrown with calcite, that has probably been dissolved. At the base there are numerous bright metallic dark blue bornite, and minor golden yellow chalcopyrite.

Collected before 1960, the specimen is from the stock of Robert Verdoodt, who was working in the laboratories of Union Minière du Haut-Katanga and evacuated to Belgium after the beginning of the Congo crisis and the declaration of independence.
