Description

Good size and representative for this kind of replacement, is this specimen of gypsum after glauberite. It is formed by sharp, interpenetrated tabular glauberite crystals, one clearly dominant, now completely replaced by polycrystalline aggregates of gypsum. Even if these pseudomorphs from Madrid are known since the end of the XIX century they are quite unknown for the general collector, even in Spain, because the old quarries where they were found were lost long ago. However, due to the construction of the connection of the M50 and A4 highways, we were able to extract some interesting crystals. The biggest reached 30 cm!.

Collected by I.Blanco in July/2002.
