Description

Very attractive micromount featuring a well-isolated ilmenite crystal set in a light, finely crystalline matrix, from the alpine locality of Varsi, Italy. The crystal shows a clean polyhedral habit, close to octahedral, with flat, well-developed faces and sharp edges, providing excellent crystallographic clarity.
The color ranges from deep black to steel gray, with a strong metallic luster. Several faces display fine growth striations and subtle variations in reflectivity, adding depth and visual interest under magnification. The crystal is well separated from the matrix, enhancing its visual impact and ease of study.
The white to cream microgranular matrix offers a bright, neutral background, creating a strong contrast that highlights the dark crystal and its geometry.
