Description

Excellent cinnabar specimen from the famous Monte Amiata mercury district in Tuscany. The mineral forms a dense carpet of bright scarlet microcrystals, creating a sparkling, granular texture with an exceptionally vivid color.

Although the crystals are microscopic, they display well-developed reflective faces with an adamantine to sub-metallic luster, producing intense ruby-like flashes under light. The red cinnabar aggregates are associated with a light-colored matrix, likely quartz or carbonates, composed of tiny white to translucent crystals that enhance the visual contrast.

This habit is characteristic of the hydrothermal volcanic environment of Monte Amiata, one of the world’s most important historical mercury deposits, and represents a classic and highly desirable micromineral specimen for its purity of color and aesthetic appeal.
