Description

This micromount shows well-formed crystals of baumhauerite, a rare sulfosalt characteristic of the Lengenbach deposit. The baumhauerite occurs as elongated, prismatic to lamellar crystals with a bright metallic lustre, displaying steel-blue to iridescent reflections and distinct longitudinal striations that clearly record the crystal growth.

The crystals are set in a light-coloured, probably calcite or dolomite matrix, whose translucency provides a strong contrast with the dark metallic sheen of the baumhauerite. The association is strikingly enhanced by vivid vermilion-red realgar, occurring as masses and prismatic crystals, adding intense colour and an exceptional visual contrast.
