Description

This outstanding micromount displays well-isolated, sharply formed crystals of bromargyrite (AgBr), a rare silver halide. The crystals show a clearly isometric habit, with cubic to octahedral forms, sharp edges and well-developed flat faces.

Their colour is an intense lemon-yellow to yellow-green, typical of fresh bromargyrite, with high transparency to translucency and a resinous to adamantine lustre that reflects light brilliantly. The crystals are scattered on a grey to brownish matrix, probably siliceous–argillaceous, locally enriched with small ferruginous aggregates.

The aesthetic quality and the excellent crystallization of this bromargyrite are quite exceptional for a French locality. The Sainte-Barbe vein is a classic occurrence, but specimens showing such sharp, well-formed crystals are very rare
