Cumengeite

Outstanding micromount from the famous Laurium mining district, Charakas area (Greece), featuring a rare and highly aesthetic association of cumengeite and fiedlerite (?), two lead halide minerals typical of chlorine- and bromine-rich oxidation zones.

slender prismatic and acicular crystals, colorless to milky white, arranged in delicate radial sprays and star-like aggregates. The crystals show sharp terminations, excellent transparency and a bright vitreous to slightly silky luster, giving the specimen a very airy, three-dimensional appearance.

Cumengeite, with its intense azure-blue coloration, is present as tiny well-formed cubic to octahedral crystals scattered among the fiedlerite sprays and on the dark supergene matrix. The vivid blue crystals provide a striking chromatic contrast with the colorless fiedlerite and the brown to black altered host rock typical of Laurium assemblages.

Such a paragenesis, combining two rare and fragile lead halides in well-developed crystal form, represents a high-quality micromineral specimen of great interest to advanced collectors.
