Description

Fine micromount of cuprite from the historic Kupferberg locality (Germany), displaying sharply formed octahedral crystals with a deep ruby-red to dark brown coloration and a bright adamantine to submetallic luster. The crystals show crisp edges and smooth reflective faces, locally bordered by a thin whitish alteration rim, likely composed of microcrystalline secondary copper oxides.

The crystals are set in a cavity lined with an ochre-brown iron-oxide-rich matrix, whose fine-grained texture enhances the perfect geometry and strong optical contrast of the cuprite. Internal purplish reflections and high surface brilliance give the specimen great visual depth, typical of well-crystallized cuprite from polymetallic alpine-type deposits.
