Description

Attractive micromount of cuprite from the classic Johnsbach locality (Styria, Austria), displaying a highly aesthetic group of intergrown cubic crystals arranged in stepped, architectural aggregates. The crystals are sharply formed, with flat lustrous faces, locally faint striations, and very crisp edges, despite their complex mutual interpenetration.

Color ranges from deep ruby red to dark reddish-brown depending on thickness and orientation, with partial transparency in transmitted light. Some crystal faces show subtle internal reflections and faint iridescent hues, highlighting the excellent optical quality of the cuprite. The specimen is set on a contrasting yellow-brown iron oxide matrix, which enhances the adamantine to submetallic luster of the copper oxide crystals.

In a box 2.8x2.8cm, labelled

FoV : 2.8mm
