Description

Outstanding micromount of graphite from the Namib Mine, Erongo Region, Namibia, showing well-developed platy to lamellar crystals embedded in a translucent to milky quartz matrix. The graphite occurs as sharp, metallic-grey hexagonal plates and stacked foliated aggregates, some with bright reflective cleavage surfaces, creating strong contrast against the light siliceous host rock.

The crystals display excellent crystallographic definition with smooth basal faces and locally stepped growth, typical of high-temperature hydrothermal or pegmatitic environments. Their intense metallic luster and perfect basal cleavage produce striking light reflections under macro and micro-photographic illumination, emphasizing the layered structure characteristic of well-crystallized graphite.

Such specimens are representative of the classic Namibian graphite occurrences, where carbon-rich fluids crystallized in quartz-rich veins and pockets under high-grade metamorphic conditions.

In a box 2.8 × 2.8 cm, labelled.
FoV: 3 mm.
