Description

attractive sasaite micromount from Breitenau (Austria), displaying an especially aesthetic and highly diagnostic habit: a dense coverage of botryoidal glomerules forming continuous patches within cavities of the matrix.

The sasaite occurs as spheroidal to micro-botryoidal aggregates, built from countless coalescing micro-spherules. The overall appearance is striking, with a smooth pearly to almost metallic lustre, locally showing subtle iridescent reflections under low-angle lighting. The botryoidal crust is well developed and varies in grain size: some areas show larger, well-individualised spheres, while others grade into a tightly packed microcrystalline coating.
