Sphalerite

Highly aesthetic micromount from Gnaszyn Dolny (Częstochowa area, Poland), featuring a spectacular metallic ZnS crystallization, historically labelled as sphalerite, but possibly re-identified as wurtzite based on recent analytical work reported for this locality.

The specimen displays a main crystal with a strong submetallic to metallic mirror-like luster, developing as sharp tabular bladed plates, forming a rosette-like aggregate. Faces are highly reflective, with a few natural micro-fractures typical of this habit.

The crystals sit on a fine beige to ochre sedimentary matrix, providing excellent contrast and a very clean display.

A perfect piece for advanced collectors interested in Central European micromounts and/or specimens with mineralogical interest (sphalerite vs wurtzite issue).

Recent analyze show that it might be Wurtzite and not sphalerite. Analyzed by Wagner H.
