Penfieldite & Boleite

Fine micromount from the Sierra Gorda district (Chile) displaying a classic and highly collectible association of Penfieldite with Boleite, typical of oxidized Pb–Cu chloride mineralization.

Penfieldite occurs as a well-defined elongated prismatic to acicular crystal, appearing as a white to translucent rod-like crystal, clearly individualized and standing out nicely from the matrix. The crystal shows a vitreous to slightly satin luster depending on the viewing angle.

Boleite is present as scattered groups of distinct blue cubic microcrystals, showing the characteristic deep blue to turquoise-blue coloration of the species. The sharp cubic habit provides an excellent morphological contrast with the elongated Penfieldite crystal.
