Fluorite On Hematite

Mineral Images Only: Fluorite On Hematite
Specimen of deep red kidney ore displays several globular crystals in small cavities in the solid Hematite matrix. In the largest cavity are two groups of Fluorite crystals. One group consists of a single Fluorite crystal up to 2mm, while the other is an interlocking group of Fluorite crystals up to 1cm. The largest group is composed of up to five baby blue transparent Fluorite cubes. The largest crystal shows a pattern of internal fractures, while the smaller crystals have clear cores. One corner of the largest Fluorite cube shows a minor cleavage, which is unclear if it is natural or extraction damage. Several smaller vugs contain Specularite and globular Hematite crystals and some remnants of smaller Fluorite cubes. Impressive little specimen comes with a Willy Israel collection label glued on the bottom of a perky box with a acquisition date of 30.08.1978, which should be close the extraction date, since he had a local source providing him with new minerals from the mines. Label mentions the Beckermet mine as a locality, but the nearby Florence mine is a more likely candidate, however all the mines were joined underground and the exact provenance is unclear. Purchased from Willy Isreal at Antwerp mineral show (Minerant).
