Notes on Adding Minerals to My List
Some Help
Whereas e-Rocks is working on creating its own database of all recognised (IMA etc) minerals, historically we have only added new minerals as they have been included in specimens for sale.
So we appreciate there are some gaps and welcome Collectors who can create "new" minerals that do match when being added in My List.
Once added we will match to our own data source and approve for general use, adding in all the relevant data.
In order to be approved the mineral must be something that appears on the IMA list or other resources such as Wikipedia, Mindat or published reference.
In adding new minerals please adhere to the source spelling and formatting, including characters, accents etc.
Thanks in advance for helping us keep our data up to date.
Do Nots
Please do not add the following name types.
Typos
Non approved (IMA etc) spelling, including spellings from another language.
Synonyms
Mineral Group names - these are collective names and already exist in our data set.
Varieties - obvious varieties are fine or will already be on the database. If this is an obscure variety name it may only be listed as the main mineral!
Anything else that would not conform our own Database standard.
Helpful Hint for Adding Lists in Bulk
When you create your list offsite, there will be various table formats available.
These columns can be cut and pasted directly into the input box.
There is no need to worry about capital letters, or trimming leading or trailing spaces, indents or removing html links.
The input parser will process all text and match accordingly
The My List help page will show you how to use the matching process.
