Description

The axinite specimen on display is composed of razor-sharp blades of axinite associated with green epidote and light brown garnet. The lustrous surface of axinite crystals reflects their curved nature, and like the quartz gwindels, these are gwindels of axinite! Twisting is compensated by numerous terraces that give specimens additional appeal. A few tiny long prismatic green epidote crystals protrude from the surface. Grainy orange-brown garnets fill the contacts between the axinite and the host rock.

Specimen stands well in multiple positions. It makes unusual shapes that defy our imagination - a flying bat, scorpion, or monkey on a motorbike - as shown above. It was fun photographing it. To my opinion, this is the best quality axinite from Peru.
