Description

Kummerite is a brand new mineral first published in 2016.

Named for Rudolf Kummer (1924-1982), mining director of the Cornelia mine at Hagendorf Süd from 1964 until his death in 1982. Rudi had a great appreciation of, and familiarity with the mineral occurrences at the mine and he was very supportive of geologists, mineralogists and collectors who came to study and collect samples from the mine.

Formula of Kummerite: Mn2+Fe3+Al(PO4)2(OH)2·8H2O

This specimen show typical groups of kummerite crystals in vugs of the rockbridgeite matrix.

This is one of the very best specimens I ever had - with straw-yellow strunzite, minor stewartite and globular strengite. EDS and XRD confirmed.
