Description

Antofagastaite is a very rare Na2Ca-Sulfate, chemically closely related to glauberite but with a different structure.
It was first found found in the oxidation zone of sulfide–quartz veins at the abandoned Coronel Manuel Rodríguez mine, Mejillones, Antofagasta Province, Antofagasta Region, Chile.

Antofagastaite forms white spherules and crystal aggregates with very tiny gemmy clear glauberite crystals very rich on matrix.

The mineral was analyzed by SEM-EDS and RAMAN analytic.

Golosina Mine is only the 3rd site in the world where the mineral has been reliably confirmed.
