Description

This specimen features the primary uranium mineral, uraninite, in its most iconic botryoidal (globular) habit. Known traditionally as "pitchblende" for its pitch-black colour and greasy-to-submetallic lustre, the uraninite forms a dense, undulating crust across a contrasting pale crystalline matrix (likely calcite or dolomite).

The specimen showcases the typical hydrothermal vein mineralisation of the Příbram district, with the black uraninite aggregates displaying a fine-grained, velvety texture upon close inspection. The sharp boundary between the dark radioactive mineral and the lighter host rock makes for a highly dramatic and educational display piece.
