Description

The berzelianite occurs as steel-grey to dark grey patches, locally with a faint bluish tone, displaying a subdued submetallic to metallic lustre. The surfaces are finely granular, without well-developed individual crystals, which is typical for this mineral in hydrothermal selenide assemblages from Skrikerum. The selenium-rich zones form irregular concentrations that contrast sharply with the white to translucent quartz matrix.

The host rock consists mainly of milky quartz, locally stained yellowish by iron oxides, cut by darker selenide-rich areas. This association is characteristic of the polymetallic veins of the Skrikerum district, where berzelianite commonly occurs together with other copper, silver and lead selenides.
