Description

Outstanding micromount of reevesite from Berceto, Rio Barbor valley, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, showing an attractive association of tiny dark euhedral crystals, likely Magnetite, scattered over a fine-grained pale matrix. At the center, a delicate spray of yellow-green acicular reevesite crystals forms a well-defined radiating cluster.

The reevesite crystals display a silky to slightly vitreous luster, with very slender, elongated habits and sharp terminations, typical of this rare nickel-iron hydroxide species. Their vivid yellow-green color contrasts strikingly with the whitish matrix and the lustrous black microcrystals, producing a highly aesthetic micro-composition.

Reevesite is an uncommon mineral, characteristic of oxidation zones in ultrabasic and nickel-bearing deposits. The Berceto locality is well known for yielding well-crystallized microscopic specimens of high scientific and collector interest. A fine example combining rarity, crystallographic quality, and strong visual appeal, perfectly suited for advanced micromineral collections.
