Description

Outstanding micromount of cummingtonite from the Ca’ Mondei locality, Italy, displaying a remarkable assemblage of elongated prismatic to fibrous crystals, ranging in color from golden-brown to olive-brown, arranged in parallel bundles and well-defined massive aggregates within a dark ferromagnesian matrix.

The crystals show very sharp longitudinal striations, partial translucency, and a silky to vitreous luster, with well-developed terminations. Fine iron-oxide staining highlights growth features and enhances the contrast with the surrounding matrix, producing a highly dynamic and visually striking composition under macro and micro-photographic observation.

Cummingtonite is a magnesium–iron amphibole typical of amphibolite-facies metamorphic environments.
