Description

Superb crystallization of uranocircite from Outeloup, France.

The specimen displays numerous well-developed tabular crystals, forming a dense aggregate with sharply defined outlines. The crystals show a square to slightly rectangular morphology typical of the tetragonal system, with finely striated flat faces.

The color ranges from intense lemon-yellow to bright yellow-green, with noticeable translucency. Under suitable lighting, the piece exhibits a strong yellow-green fluorescence, characteristic of secondary uranium phosphates.

The crystals are arranged in subparallel stacks, producing a highly aesthetic geometric appearance. The overall luster is vitreous to slightly pearly on fresh surfaces.

Uranocircite is a hydrated barium uranium phosphate (Ba(UO₂)₂(PO₄)₂·8–10H₂O), typically formed in the oxidation zones of granitic uranium deposits.
